Here’s our assessment on various HIPAA-compliant video conferencing services. We have information on the security, features, and cost-effectiveness of these services. All options include military-grade AES 256-bit encryption.

Zoom


As of May 30, Zoom will mandate all users install an update with military-grade AES 256-bit encryption. Zoom still is working on end-to-end encryption. In March and April Zoom had several security concerns, many of which had to do simply with unsecure Zoom links being sent out. However, one involved recordings staying in the cloud for hours after being deleted and one included routing through servers in China, sparking privacy concerns.
 
All issues have been dealt with, but other items on this list have little to no bad news. If you want to use Zoom, HIPAA enabled plans start at $200 per month per account, which comes with 10 hosts. Sales must be contacted for other pricing information. More information below:

If you are using  Phone.com , there’s an add-on for $9.99/host/month for HIPAA-compliant video meeting on Chrome. This is one of the most affordable HIPAA-compliant video meeting services if you have a  Phone.com  plan. This plan includes SMS notification, meeting chat, document sharing, and up to 25 participants per meeting. For $14.99/host/month there is an automated transcript that can be activated and then later searched through upon request. We are partnered with  Phone.com . More information below:

Doxy.me

 Doxy.me is one of the only HIPAA-compliant video services which is 100% free no matter how many sessions you have. There is also no client download required. The free version has end-to-end encryption and is iOS and Android compatible, but has low-definition video and does not include an audio only option. Amazon Chime Pro

Amazon Chime is a HIPAA-compliant video conferencing service with a pay-as-you-go and pay-by-the-minute model which can be cost-effective if calls are infrequent, but it can be costly otherwise. It contains private links, conferencing rooms, and scheduling features. Amazon Chime Pro is offering a free trial until June 30 with some restrictions. More information below:

Thera-LINK

Tailored toward therapy Thera-Link is a HIPAA-compliant video software with both host and client scheduling features included. Thera-link Pro is $45/provider/month and includes payment request, an advance client scheduler, and secure file share. Only the ultimate plan, for $65/provider/month includes secure messaging. The ultimate plan also includes listing in a thera-LINK directory for therapists. There is a free 3-day trial for all plans and discounts for annual plans.

VSee

For $49/provider/month Vsee includes HIPAA-compliant video conferencing and calling as well as intake and consent forms, and a listing on This American Doc. The basic Vsee plan doesn’t have live support, but the enterprise plan has 24/7 support. The enterprise plan also includes a patient scheduler, online credit card payments, and invoices, but sales must be contacted for a price.
